Kaduna Bus Conductor Sentenced to 10 Strokes for Slapping Passenger Over Fare

A Kaduna Magistrates’ Court has sentenced 20-year-old bus conductor Abubakar Shehu to 10 strokes of the cane for assaulting a passenger during a dispute over transport fare. The court heard that Shehu allegedly slapped Hadiza Rabiu twice during an argument at Kawo, Kaduna, on July 24. He pleaded guilty to the charge. The magistrate said the sentence was lenient because Shehu admitted his offence and did not waste the court’s time. He was also ordered to sign an undertaking to maintain good behaviour and warned against repeating the act.
