NGE Conference to Examine Media’s Role in Protecting Nigeria’s Democracy Ahead of 2027
The Nigerian Guild of Editors will hold its 2026 All Nigeria Editors Conference on September 24 and 25 at the International Conference Centre in Enugu. The event will focus on how responsible journalism can strengthen democracy ahead of the 2027 general elections. More than 500 editors and other stakeholders are expected at the conference, themed “The Ballot, the Media and the Task of Keeping Democracy Alive.” Discussions will cover public trust, electoral justice, election petitions, responsible terrorism reporting and journalists’ wellbeing. A major session will address artificial intelligence-driven disinformation and ways to identify and counter false information before, during and after elections. Media leaders, public officials and political party representatives are also expected to discuss issues affecting national development and credible elections.
