Russia Drone Strikes Romanian Apartment Block, EU and NATO Condemn Escalation
A drone believed to be from Russia crashed into a residential building in Galați, Romania, near the Ukrainian border, injuring two people. Romania’s foreign ministry called the incident a “serious and irresponsible escalation,” and President Nicușor Dan described it as the most severe attack on Romanian soil since the war began. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said Russia’s aggression had crossed another line. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte condemned the reckless act and pledged to defend every inch of allied territory. Romania deployed F-16 jets after detecting the drones and has formally requested additional anti-drone systems from its allies. A Supreme Council of National Defence meeting will decide on proportionate measures.
