I Recovered My ₦200,000, but Questions Remain About the WhatsApp Scam
I have finally recovered the ₦200,000 I sent after receiving a WhatsApp request from someone I know. She later claimed that her phone had been stolen and that another person used her account to request the money. However, parts of her explanation did not add up. The person who messaged me knew personal details about our relationship, the reason she had previously asked me for money, and even sent a voice note in her voice. I also received information suggesting she had travelled to Ghana to meet her husband. When I asked her to give her account at the police station, she repeatedly declined. She initially offered to repay the money in instalments, but refunded the full ₦200,000 after I insisted the matter should be properly addressed. I am grateful to have my money back, but I still do not know who sent the messages or how they had access to such personal information. My advice is simple: always call and verify directly before sending money to a third-party account, even when the request appears to come from someone you know.
