Edo Assembly Impeaches Former Speaker Blessing Agbebaku

The Edo State House of Assembly has converted the indefinite suspension of former Speaker Blessing Agbebaku into an impeachment. Speaker Yekini Idaiye said Agbebaku’s resignation notice was not formally presented or documented after his suspension. He said 17 of the 24 lawmakers signed the impeachment notice, which was presented during plenary. Agbebaku, who represents Owan West Constituency, had announced his resignation on August 17, 2026. The Assembly has also replaced the former Majority Leader and Deputy Majority Leader with new principal officers.
