British High Commission Flags Vote-Buying, BVAS Gaps in Osun Election
The British High Commission has congratulated Governor Ademola Adeleke on his re-election in the 15 August 2026 Osun governorship poll. It said its observers recorded encouraging signs, including timely opening of polls in many areas, security presence and voters’ patience. The commission, however, noted reports of isolated tension, vote-buying across party lines, limited access for elderly people and persons with disabilities, and overcrowding linked to BVAS accreditation challenges. It urged electoral institutions to review the shortcomings ahead of the 2027 general elections, stressing the need for more transparent, inclusive and credible polls nationwide. The statement has also revived debate about the continued role and interest of foreign missions in Nigeria’s electoral process.
