Atiku Criticises Tinubu’s Three-Week Europe Vacation Amid Hardship and Insecurity

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s decision to begin a three-week vacation in Europe, arguing that the trip comes at a difficult time for Nigerians. The Presidency announced on August 30 that Tinubu had departed Abuja for his annual leave. Atiku said the President’s absence was hard to justify while Nigerians face high petrol prices, food insecurity, rising transport costs and persistent insecurity. He argued that leadership requires being present during a national crisis, comparing the decision to a father leaving home while his family is trapped in a burning building. Atiku also noted that Vice President Kashim Shettima was reportedly outside the country on official duty.
