Sanwo-Olu: APC’s Osun Loss Shows Democracy Is Maturing Under Tinubu

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu says the APC’s defeat in the Osun governorship election shows that democracy is taking firmer root in Nigeria under President Bola Tinubu. Speaking at an annual lecture in Ikeja, Sanwo-Olu said the ruling party’s loss to Governor Ademola Adeleke demonstrated that “federal might” was no longer being used to dictate electoral outcomes. He said no political office or victory was worth the life of any Nigerian. The governor urged INEC to prepare adequately for the 2027 elections and called on politicians to reject violence and malpractice. He also asked the media to rigorously fact-check political claims and challenge disinformation, including from his own party.
