Niger Police Arrest 21 in Raids on Minna Crime Hotspots
The Niger State Police Command says it arrested 21 suspects in separate operations targeting alleged thuggery, armed robbery, house-breaking and possession of dangerous weapons in Minna and nearby communities. Police said 12 suspects were arrested during midnight raids on identified hotspots in Angwan-Dakoko, Angwan-Kwakwa and Angwan-Gwari. Officers reportedly recovered a dagger and a sword from two of the suspects. The command also named a 20-year-old suspect accused of taking part in a house-breaking in Maitumbi, where household items including a television, generator, clothing and solar equipment were allegedly stolen. Police said they are seeking another suspect and working to recover the remaining property. Other operations in Kpakungu, Marikichi and Bosso led to further arrests, the recovery of suspected cannabis and weapons, and the discovery of a locally made pistol at a mining site. Investigations are ongoing, while three suspects arrested after a fight in Marikichi have reportedly been charged to court.
