US Lobbying Firm Seeks Records on Reported Nigeria-US $700bn Mining MoU
A US-based political advisory and lobbying firm says it has filed a Freedom of Information Act request with the US State Department for documents on a reported $700 billion mining memorandum of understanding involving Nigeria and the United States. The firm said it requested the signed agreement and records relating to its negotiation after calls for the Nigerian government to disclose its terms. It said the documents could clarify safeguards for communities affected by mining and the commitments made by both countries. The Presidency had not responded publicly to the filing at the time of the report.
