Kwara Residents Allege Security Operatives Direct Ransom Couriers to Terrorists
Residents of Woru and nearby communities in Ilorin East, Kwara State, have alleged that some police and military personnel fail to respond to terrorist attacks and direct families to locations where ransom is demanded. The residents said kidnappers have intensified attacks on farmers, motorists and other community members. They alleged that at least seven people were being held captive after a series of abductions between August and September. They also said a traditional chief’s family paid ₦5 million and supplied other items demanded for the release of his kidnapped son, but the victim was not freed. The kidnappers allegedly demanded another ₦5 million days later. Residents have called for urgent intervention by the Kwara State Government and security agencies, as well as an investigation into the allegations. Police and Army authorities had not responded to requests for comment when the report was filed.
