Tinubu’s Record After Three Years: Achievements, Unmet Promises and the Cost of Reform
More than three years after President Bola Tinubu took office with the Renewed Hope agenda, his administration can point to major reforms and several visible interventions. These include fuel subsidy removal, foreign-exchange reforms, student loans, infrastructure projects, support for domestic refining and digital-skills programmes. However, many Nigerians still judge the administration by daily realities. Food, transport, rent, electricity and business costs remain high. Insecurity, unreliable power supply and unemployment also continue to affect households and communities across the country. The government says difficult reforms were necessary to stabilise public finances and build a stronger economy. Critics argue that the promised gains have not reached ordinary citizens quickly enough, particularly as the one-million digital-jobs pledge lacks a clear public scorecard. Tinubu’s record remains mixed. The decisive test will come in 2027, when voters assess whether the reforms, projects and policies delivered enough improvement to justify the hardship many Nigerians have endured.
