Aid Worker Seeks Justice for Girl in Alleged Abuse Case Involving Abakaliki Catechist
An aid worker has called for renewed investigation into the alleged sexual abuse of a four-year-old girl in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State. The allegation involves a catechist at a Catholic cathedral where the child’s family reportedly lived at the time. The child’s mother said her daughter has continued to suffer health complications and is receiving medical treatment. A doctor who reportedly attended to the girl said she was brought to hospital after the alleged incident last year. The aid worker said the catechist was arrested and later granted bail, while investigators forwarded the case to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions for legal advice. He also alleged that the girl’s father withdrew support for the case after pressure was placed on the family. The cathedral administrator reportedly disputed the allegation against the catechist. The aid worker has asked police to reopen the investigation and ensure the child receives proper care and justice.
