Abeokuta Court Jails Man Four Years for Impersonating Bank Staff
An Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court has sentenced Idris Balogun to four years in prison for posing as a bank employee and defrauding customers. Balogun pleaded guilty to six counts, including conspiracy, impersonation, fraud, false pretence and stealing. The court ordered that the sentences run concurrently, with no option of a fine. Prosecutors said he allegedly approached customers at a Polaris Bank branch in Oke-Ilewo, offered to help them make deposits, collected their cash and disappeared. He was accused of taking ₦270,000 from one customer in 2019 and ₦600,000 from another in 2024.
