ITU and Google Announce 100,000 AI Skills Scholarships at UNGA 81
The International Telecommunication Union and Google have announced 100,000 online certificate scholarships through the AI for Good Skills Coalition at Digital@UNGA 2026 in New York. The programme will support the ITU-UNICEF Giga initiative and will be delivered with national governments. It is intended to help participants gain skills for an economy increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence. Discussions at the event focused on closing the digital divide through better internet access, affordable devices, digital literacy and stronger public digital infrastructure. The issue is particularly relevant to African countries, where uneven broadband access, data costs and limited training opportunities could prevent many young people from benefiting from the AI economy. The event also highlighted digital gender inclusion, with a goal of helping more women and girls participate actively in the digital economy over the next decade.
