1 / 4

The Kaduna State High Court has convicted Aliyu Hassan, Samuel Olamide and Solomon Joseph Christian for internet fraud committed on Facebook and TikTok. Each pleaded guilty to criminal impersonation and obtaining money by false pretence. According to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Hassan posed as a Brazilian citizen on Facebook and swindled ₦90,000 from a victim. Olamide impersonated an American on TikTok and defrauded Jackie Sanders, while Christian obtained $150 through a fake Facebook profile. Justice A. Isiaka sentenced each man to five years’ imprisonment or a ₦300,000 fine. The court also ordered the forfeiture of all proceeds and devices used: Hassan’s ₦90,000 and Samsung Galaxy Note 8, Olamide’s Galaxy S21, and Christian’s iPhone 14 Pro and $150.
