INEC Final List Omits Pantami, Adebutu and Gwarzo Ahead of 2027 Governorship Polls

INEC’s final list of candidates for the February 6, 2027 governorship elections excludes Isa Pantami of the PDP in Gombe, Ladi Adebutu of the PDP in Ogun, and Aminu Gwarzo of the NDC in Kano. The omissions follow a Supreme Court decision affirming electoral-law provisions that bar parties from sponsoring candidates whose names were not included in membership registers submitted to INEC within the required period. INEC has not publicly stated why the three names were left out. The affected parties say they are working to resolve the issue through available legal and electoral channels. If the omissions are not corrected, the PDP could enter the Gombe and Ogun contests without governorship candidates, while the NDC may have no candidate in Kano.
