Sheikh Gumi Urges FG to Halt Military Spending and Negotiate with IPOB
Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has urged the Federal Government to stop its heavy spending on military operations. He argues that force alone cannot bring lasting peace and that dialogue with armed groups is the most practical solution. He warns that the military’s kinetic approach only fuels violence. "Even IPOB, who wants succession, if they lay down arms and negotiate, I will support them," he said, stressing that buying more guns won’t solve Nigeria’s security crisis. Gumi claims that massive security allocations have not translated into stability. He suggests some funds end up abroad as real estate and fail to address the root causes of unrest. Pointing to poor roads, erratic electricity, and weak social systems, he argues that redirecting defence budgets into infrastructure and public services would help reduce violence and build lasting peace.
