Investigator Alleges $600,000 Plan to Settle EFCC Officials in El-Rufai Trial
A State Security Service forensic investigator, Segun Kayode, told the Kaduna State High Court that former Governor Nasir El-Rufai and some associates allegedly earmarked $600,000 for EFCC officials and intermediaries. Kayode, the first prosecution witness, said forensic audio recordings allegedly captured discussions about frustrating an EFCC investigation involving a company known as Singularity. He said $500,000 and $100,000 were allegedly set aside for the proposed payments. The witness named A.U. Mustapha, Jimi Lawal and Bashir El-Rufai as people mentioned in the recordings. He also alleged that the discussions covered plans to liquidate Singularity in Nigeria and Mauritius, as well as efforts to prevent an investigation involving IHS. The court session lasted nearly eight hours, including about two hours spent playing the recordings. The allegations remain claims presented by the prosecution in the ongoing case.
