Ogun Security Guard Dies After Police Officer Is Accused of Shooting Him During Robbery Alert
A 26-year-old security guard, Ayineka Ayomide Daniel, died after he was shot in the neck at his workplace in Itori, Ogun State, on October 14. Another guard reportedly suffered gunshot wounds to both hands. Daniel’s family alleged that the guards woke a police officer assigned to the premises after suspecting that intruders had entered. They claimed the officer opened fire shortly afterwards. The family is demanding justice and says it was initially given a different explanation for Daniel’s injuries. A staff member of the company gave a conflicting account, describing the incident as an accidental discharge while workers and the officer responded to a suspected security threat. The officer was reportedly detained, and the case was transferred to the Ogun State Police Headquarters for investigation. Police have yet to publicly provide a detailed account of the shooting. Investigators are expected to determine whether the firearm was discharged accidentally or whether unlawful conduct was involved.
