UNESCO Names Beijing World Capital of Architecture for 2029

UNESCO has named Beijing the World Capital of Architecture for 2029 under its joint programme with the International Union of Architects (UIA). The designation recognises Beijing's blend of historic preservation, modern urban renewal and sustainable planning. UNESCO said the city demonstrates how cultural heritage, innovation and community-focused design can support more resilient and liveable cities. Beijing will host the UIA World Congress of Architects in 2029. The event is expected to bring global attention to sustainable urban development, future city design and architectural conservation.
