SPI-LAW Petition Seeks Disciplinary Review of Former AGF Malami
A petition by SPI-LAW has asked the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee to examine allegations of professional misconduct involving former Attorney-General of the Federation Abubakar Malami, SAN. The petition reportedly relies partly on findings from the September 2026 arbitration award in the Sunrise Power case. It asks the committee to determine whether the allegations warrant disciplinary proceedings under the Rules of Professional Conduct and the Legal Practitioners Act. Lawyer Ifeanyi Ejiofor said professional discipline should be considered independently of any criminal proceedings. He urged the Nigerian Bar Association, the Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria and the Body of Benchers to apply ethical standards consistently, regardless of a lawyer’s public office or status. The allegations remain subject to review and determination by the relevant disciplinary bodies.
