US Man Admits Hiding Cousin’s Body for Eight Months While Collecting His Benefits

A 59-year-old New Jersey man has pleaded guilty to concealing the body of his 72-year-old cousin, a former US Marine, for more than eight months while collecting his benefits. Authorities found the veteran’s body in April 2025 after responding to a welfare check at his mobile home. Police said the body had been wrapped in plastic and hidden inside a taped-up bedroom closet. The man, who had been his cousin’s caregiver, admitted he concealed the death in July 2024 and used the deceased man’s income and credit card. He is expected to receive a 10-year prison sentence and must repay $15,000 to the state. The veteran was later buried with full military honours.
