Ayo Arise Says Osun Governorship Poll Signals a Record-Based 2027 Election
Former Ekiti North senator Ayo Arise says the outcome of the Osun governorship election shows that the 2027 general election could be transparent and decided on candidates’ records, facts and figures. Arise praised INEC’s conduct of the Osun poll and argued that President Bola Tinubu’s administration should campaign on its policies and development claims. He said Nigerians should compare the current government’s performance with previous administrations. He defended the removal of petrol subsidy, saying it has improved public revenue and enabled states to receive larger allocations for salaries, infrastructure, healthcare and education. He criticised former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s proposed policy reversals, arguing that a return to the old subsidy system would be retrogressive.
