Tinubu’s Lawyers Seek to Correct Errors in U.S. FOIA Court Filing
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s lawyers have asked a United States federal court for permission to replace an earlier filing with an amended version after acknowledging drafting and factual errors. The corrections concern references to 1993, Tinubu’s public office and a comparison involving student enrolment. The lawyers said the errors were unintentional and were identified after the filing by transparency activist Aaron Greenspan. The request forms part of Greenspan’s Freedom of Information Act case seeking records from U.S. agencies relating to a past narcotics investigation and a 1993 civil forfeiture proceeding involving about $460,000 linked to Tinubu. Tinubu has denied wrongdoing. Tinubu’s lawyers said the corrections do not change their core argument that records relating to decades-old events remain protected by privacy and law-enforcement exemptions. The documents provided show a proposed order, but do not confirm that the judge has granted the request.
