Nigerian Woman Jailed Seven Years in Ghana for Human Trafficking
A court in Tamale, Ghana, has sentenced 24-year-old Nigerian woman Mariam Yussif to seven years’ imprisonment with hard labour for human trafficking. Yussif was convicted on October 22, 2026, after police investigated the recruitment and movement of victims from Nigeria to Ghana for sexual exploitation. She had been arrested in Yendi on August 17 alongside her sister, Precious Clement. The court found Yussif guilty after trial, while prosecutors said there was insufficient evidence to proceed against Clement, who was released. The two victims have been returned to Nigeria and reunited with their families.
