Three years after losing his wife, Chief Emeka found comfort in church. One Sunday, his phone rang during a sermon. It was his daughter calling from Canada after two months of silence. As he struggled to silence the phone, an usher rebuked him and the pastor condemned the interruption. Ashamed and hurt, Chief Emeka spent the rest of the service wondering why no one had asked whether he was okay. Later that day, a young waiter spilled red Chapman on his white agbada, the last one his wife had bought for him. The frightened boy begged for mercy, fearing he would lose his job.
