INEC Voter Register Nears 100 Million as 2027 Election Preparations Intensify

INEC says Nigeria’s voter register is nearing 100 million after 10,772,421 new registrations were recorded during the latest Continuous Voter Registration exercise. The figures are still subject to verification through the Automated Biometric Identification System. The commission also plans to introduce a real-time readiness tracker for the 36 states and the FCT. The system will monitor logistics, ad hoc staff recruitment and training, electoral technology, materials distribution and other preparations for the 2027 general elections. INEC says the tracker is meant to prevent last-minute failures and improve accountability at state and local levels. It also identified voter apathy, misinformation, public distrust, security and staff neutrality as major concerns ahead of the polls scheduled for January and February 2027.
