Miner Killed in Shooting at Illegal Mining Site in Plateau
A miner, Mr. Dachung Dacholom, was killed in a shooting at an illegal mining site in Rim community, Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State. Troops of Sector 6, Operation Enduring Peace, reportedly responded to reports of gunfire at about 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 22. They arrived with DSS personnel and found Dacholom's body at the site. Security sources said suspected armed attackers opened fire on miners before escaping into nearby high grounds. Troops searched the area but did not locate the suspects. The body was released to the family for burial, while security agencies have increased patrols and are working to identify those responsible.
