Two Police Officers Killed in Obio/Akpor Checkpoint Attack, Manhunt Launched
The Rivers State Police Command has launched a manhunt after gunmen opened fire on officers at a security checkpoint in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area. The attack took place around 9pm on June 29 along the Mbodo/Aluu axis of Obiri-Kwere Road. Three officers from Aluu Division were conducting a routine stop-and-search when assailants arrived in a vehicle, shot them at close range and fled. Witnesses say the attackers had earlier robbed residents before turning their guns on the policemen. The command’s spokesperson confirmed two officers were killed and a third wounded. Investigations are under way, and the state’s Commissioner of Police visited the scene to assess the response and boost efforts to apprehend the suspects.
