2027: Datti Baba-Ahmed Says He Will Not Campaign Against Tinubu
Former Labour Party vice-presidential candidate Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed says he will not campaign against President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 election by promoting Peter Obi or Atiku Abubakar. He said the position was based on fairness and should not be seen as a withdrawal of his support for Obi, his former running mate. According to him, asking Tinubu to step aside while backing another contender would unfairly disadvantage a major opponent. Baba-Ahmed said he still supports Obi, although he disagrees with some of Obi’s political decisions. He also rejected claims that Obi dropped him, saying he had advised the former Anambra governor in January 2024 to develop a clearer political plan. He added that he has deep respect for former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, whom he described as a father figure.
