ACF, MBF Dispute Tinubu’s Claim That North Benefits Most From Reforms

President Bola Tinubu says Northern Nigeria will be the biggest beneficiary of his economic reforms, including fuel-subsidy removal, infrastructure investment and planned trade corridors linking the region to neighbouring countries. The administration says the reforms have improved reserves, non-oil revenue, trade figures and inflation. It also cited projects such as the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano gas pipeline, major road corridors, student loans and vocational training programmes. The Arewa Consultative Forum and Middle Belt Forum rejected the claim, pointing to insecurity, poverty, struggling agriculture, poor roads and out-of-school children across the North. They argue that subsidy removal has worsened hardship nationwide. Northern Christian leaders took a different view, saying the region has received important road and education projects under Tinubu. The debate comes as the APC and ADC clash over whether fuel subsidy should be restored ahead of the 2027 election.
