Gbajabiamila Threatens N10bn Defamation Suit Over ‘Fake Agency’ Allegations

Gbajabiamila Threatens N10bn Defamation Suit Over ‘Fake Agency’ Allegations

Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to the President, has warned Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi of legal action over claims linking him to murder, bribery and other crimes. In a letter dated July 6, Gbajabiamila’s lawyers demand N10 billion in damages if Adeyemi does not retract statements accusing the Chief of Staff of seeking kickbacks from the fictitious PFIPC budget. The letter calls the allegations “gravely defamatory” and insists the council has no legal existence. Adeyemi is already facing trial in Abuja for forgery of official documents and impersonation. Gbajabiamila’s legal team has asked for a public apology, removal of all related material and warned of criminal and civil defamation proceedings if their demands are not met. Human rights lawyer Femi Falana has urged an independent investigation into the dispute. Adeyemi’s next court appearance is set for July 27, 2026.

Given Gbajabiamila's N10bn demand over those allegations, how might this suit affect public trust in officials?

True, pushing such huge suit can look like using power to silence criticism, shaking public confidence.

It's curious he's pushing for a massive N10bn claim over unverified allegations instead of addressing them head-on.

How exactly does he plan to prove those agency claims are untrue before chasing N10bn?

Bringing such heavy damages into political disputes could chill legitimate criticism rather than resolve the truth.

Perhaps a fact-based public forum might serve everyone better than a drawn-out lawsuit over allegations.
