Benue APC Faction Demands Alia Apologise to Peter Obi Over Convoy Blockade
A faction of the APC in Benue State has asked Governor Hyacinth Alia to apologise to Peter Obi over the reported attack and blockage of Obi’s convoy during his visit to the state. Obi was travelling towards Makurdi to sympathise with victims of the Yelwata massacre when suspected political thugs allegedly obstructed his movement. The faction said the incident could damage the APC’s image and does not reflect Benue’s tradition of hospitality. The state government said it was not notified of Obi’s visit and denied any link to thuggery. However, the APC faction loyal to SGF George Akume accused the Alia administration of political intolerance and urged the governor to publicly distance himself from the incident. The group also called for an apology to Obi, President Bola Tinubu, Benue residents and the APC, insisting that political differences must not lead to violence ahead of the 2027 elections.
