Federal Government Approves ₦70,000 Monthly Transport Support for Public Workers
The Federal Government has approved a ₦70,000 monthly transport support payment for public service workers for six months, starting from November 2026. The measure is intended to ease the impact of rising living costs. The decision followed a conciliation meeting in Abuja between the Federal Government and the Nigeria Labour Congress. The parties also agreed to pay outstanding peculiar allowance arrears from May 2026 in three equal instalments beginning in November. They did not agree on when a new national minimum wage would take effect. However, the Minimum Wage Negotiation Committee is expected to be constituted immediately and begin discussions. The agreement also addressed health workers’ pay, tax relief and hazard allowances for agricultural officers.
