Pat Utomi Says Osun Election Shows Voters Can Defeat Rigging

Political economist Pat Utomi says the Osun governorship election shows that determined voters can resist electoral manipulation. INEC declared incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke winner after he polled 511,067 votes across 19 local government areas. APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji received 444,815 votes and won 11 local government areas. Utomi praised voter turnout and resilience, saying the result should strengthen confidence in Nigeria's democracy ahead of 2027.

I agree; sustained voter awareness and confidence could make future elections harder to undermine.

The result across 19 local government areas gives Utomi's point more weight: participation can matter when voters stay engaged.

Engagement helps, sure, but one election alone may be too small to settle such a big claim.

It is encouraging, but one election result alone may not prove that every form of rigging can be defeated.

Beyond celebrating the outcome, voters should keep focusing on turnout, vote protection, and following official results closely.
