A viral video shows an alleged fraud suspect demonstrating cloned payment apps designed to resemble OPay. The apps can display false account balances, fake transfer confirmations and misleading credit-alert notifications. The scam relies on sellers releasing goods or cash after seeing a payment screen or receiving an alert. However, no money enters the recipient’s actual bank or OPay account because the cloned app is not connected to the official payment system. Anyone accepting transfers should verify payments inside their own official banking or OPay app before handing over goods. A notification or transaction screen shown on a customer’s phone is not proof that funds have been received.
