Bayelsa Police Rescue Woman After Nearly a Month in Kidnappers’ Den
Bayelsa State Police Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit has rescued Sarah Chinedu Ama, who was abducted on July 28 and held captive in a creek-side forest for nearly one month. Her kidnappers reportedly demanded ₦50 million before reducing the amount. Her husband paid a total of ₦1.8 million, but the gang allegedly demanded an additional ₦3.5 million instead of releasing her. Police said intelligence, surveillance and phone tracking helped officers locate the hideout. During the August 22 operation, officers reportedly found only one suspect guarding the victim, arrested him and rescued Ama alive. Ammunition, live cartridges and extended magazines were also recovered. The arrested suspect was reportedly a neighbour of the victim’s husband. Investigations are expected to continue as police pursue other members of the gang.
