South African Man Sentenced to 20 Years for Raping His Mother

A 22-year-old man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to raping his mother while she slept at their home in Carnarvon, Northern Cape, South Africa. The court heard that the woman woke during the assault and later reported the incident to police. Although the accused initially denied the allegation, DNA evidence and the survivor’s testimony linked him to the crime. The mother told the court she remains traumatised and is receiving counselling. The court ordered that the man’s name be entered into the National Register for Sex Offenders.
