Atiku Replies Obasanjo, Denies Plot to Remove Him From Office
Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has accused former President Olusegun Obasanjo of running a two-decade campaign of “lies, political manipulation and orchestrated deceit” against him. The response followed Obasanjo’s reported claim that Atiku mobilised the late former House Speaker, Ghali Na’Abba, in an attempt to remove him from office. Atiku’s media adviser, Paul Ibe, said former lawmaker Abubakar Bwari’s account contradicted the allegation. He also cited former Abia State governor Orji Uzor Kalu, who said Atiku supported Obasanjo’s re-election bid in 2003 despite pressure from PDP governors. The statement also revisited the PTDF investigation and the breakdown of the Obasanjo-Atiku alliance ahead of the 2007 election. Atiku’s camp argued that the past allegations were politically motivated and connected to Obasanjo’s failed third-term ambition.
