Deadly Monsoon Rains Trigger Landslides, Floods and Building Collapses Across India

Heavy monsoon downpours have caused widespread devastation across multiple Indian states. In Kerala’s Wayanad district, a landslide at a tunnel project killed three people, injured ten and left five missing. Maharashtra faced its own crisis as a landslide buried five homes in Ratnagiri. In the Mumbai area, two boys drowned in separate incidents and women were injured when cement sheets collapsed in a public garden. Gujarat reported five rain‐related deaths, including four by electrocution, while over 2,100 residents were moved to relief shelters. Arunachal Pradesh saw fresh flash floods and landslides that added to the more than 94,000 people affected this season. Even Delhi and neighbouring states welcomed relief from the heat, but heavy showers led to severe waterlogging and a cave‐in on the Delhi–Jaipur highway. Meteorological authorities warn that rainfall will intensify over the next three days, raising fears of further floods and landslides.
