Niger Police Rescue Two-Month-Old Baby, Arrest Woman Over Suspected Trafficking

Police in Niger State have rescued a two-month-old baby and arrested a 35-year-old woman, Lami Bako, over suspected child trafficking. The woman was reportedly intercepted by officers on patrol at Kainji Junction in Mokwa on September 20 while carrying the crying baby. Police said the circumstances raised suspicion and she was taken to the station for questioning. During interrogation, she allegedly said she was not the child’s biological mother and claimed an unidentified woman handed the baby to her. The suspect is in custody while the State Criminal Investigation Department investigates and works to locate the baby’s mother.
