Israel Announces Retaliatory Measures Against UK Over Settlement Sanctions

Israel has announced a series of retaliatory measures against the United Kingdom after Britain imposed sanctions linked to West Bank settlements. Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar said Israel would close the UK consulate in East Jerusalem, expel British representatives at a civil-military coordination centre, and end British training support for Palestinian Authority security forces in Ramallah. Israel also said it would bar 12 British MPs and other British nationals from entry. Israeli officials described the UK measures as interference ahead of Israel’s elections, while the Peace Now movement backed the sanctions, arguing that they target settlements rather than Israel itself. Several Israeli politicians have called for further action, including the expulsion of the British ambassador and the closure of Britain’s diplomatic facilities in Jerusalem.
