Tesla Showcases Roadster Prototype With Rocket-Style Thrusters, Targets 2028 Production

Tesla has showcased a redesigned Roadster prototype fitted with rocket-style thrusters developed with SpaceX. At a demonstration in Texas, the vehicle drove up an inverted ramp, performed an aerial manoeuvre and landed on its wheels. The prototype also jumped over a line of vehicles using its thrusters. Tesla demonstrated it without an occupant because of the noise and vibration generated during the display. Elon Musk said production is now targeted for 2028, almost nine years after the next-generation Roadster was first announced. Tesla said a proposed Rocket version with a full flight system would not be approved for public roads, while a Thrust version is expected to be street legal in some jurisdictions.
