Cross River CP: Police Bail Is Free, Bribery Will Be Prosecuted
The Cross River State Commissioner of Police, Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, has restated that police bail is free for bailable offences. He gave the warning during a visit to the Ogoja Area Command Headquarters on 15 October 2026. The commissioner said anyone who attempts to bribe police officers in connection with a case could face prosecution. He said parties in police matters should not try to pressure or induce officers with money. Under Nigerian law, officers cannot lawfully demand payment before granting police bail. Bail conditions may include a surety or a written undertaking to appear when required, but cash demands for release are illegal.
