Obaze Cites 2014 Handover Records in Anambra Debt Dispute

Oseloka Obaze, former Secretary to the Anambra State Government under Peter Obi, says the 2014 handover documents recorded the state’s assets, investments, bank balances and liabilities when Willie Obiano took office. He said the records listed about ₦27 billion in local investments, $156 million in foreign-currency investments, ₦28.166 billion in certified balances and a ₦10 billion Federal Government refund. Obaze put the total listed resources at about ₦91.666 billion, against estimated liabilities of about ₦5 billion. The statement comes amid a renewed dispute over loans obtained during the Obi administration. The Anambra State Government says eight external loans taken between 2007 and 2013 had an outstanding balance of about $92.35 million as of June 30, 2026, while Obi maintains that he left substantial funds and investments without unpaid salary, pension, gratuity or certified-project obligations. Obaze urged that the debate be assessed using the official handover records rather than political claims.
