Anambra Government, Peter Obi and the Need for Institutional Neutrality
A state government is an institution, while a governor is only its temporary custodian. Public resources, agencies and communication channels belong to the people of Anambra State, not to any governor, party or political ally. Criticism of a governor must never be treated as criticism of the state itself. The dispute between the Anambra State Government and Peter Obi over the finances of previous administrations should be resolved with verifiable records, not political rhetoric. If there are concerns about loans, liabilities or public spending, the government should publish relevant audit reports, handover documents, loan agreements, repayment schedules and other certified records for independent scrutiny. Governor Soludo's support for President Bola Tinubu and Peter Obi's position in national politics make transparency even more important. This does not automatically prove political motives, but it gives citizens every reason to demand that state institutions remain visibly independent of the governor's personal political interests. The principle should apply across Nigeria, regardless of party. Governors come and go, but public institutions remain. Accountability is strongest when facts are open to journalists, auditors, experts and citizens, rather than being reduced to a contest between political declarations.
