Bombing the B1 Bridge: When “Help” Becomes Harm
There is a stark contradiction in President Trump’s message. He claims U.S. strikes are designed to help the Iranian people, yet he ordered the bombing of the B1 bridge linking Tehran to Karaj. This bridge is a vital artery for commuters, traders, families and emergency services. Its destruction directly disrupts civilian life. Longer commutes, economic losses and delayed medical care are immediate consequences. Under international humanitarian law, civilian infrastructure is protected unless it offers a clear military advantage. Attacking a major public bridge raises serious questions about distinction and proportionality. The same threats to send Iran “back to the Stone Age” would be called terrorism if aimed at the United States. This double standard reveals the gap between rhetoric and reality. If bombing a bridge is called “help,” what, then, would be called harm?
