Reps Deputy Spokesman Urges Opposition to Stop Lobbying US Over Tinubu’s Historical Records
House of Representatives Deputy Spokesperson Philip Agbese has urged the US government to disregard what he called politically motivated lobbying over historical law-enforcement records linked to President Bola Tinubu. Speaking in Abuja, the Benue lawmaker said opposition politicians should not internationalise domestic political disputes in ways that could damage Nigeria’s reputation. He argued that negative portrayals of the country could affect Nigerians seeking education, jobs, business partnerships and other opportunities abroad. Agbese said criticism of the Tinubu administration is legitimate, but insisted political actors should use Nigeria’s democratic and judicial institutions. His comments follow reports that a US lobbying firm was engaged to pursue the release of decades-old records ahead of the 2027 elections.
