2027: Atiku Defends Proposed Production Subsidy to Cut Fuel Prices

ADC presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar says he will introduce a “Production Subsidy” if elected in 2027, arguing that it would support local refining and reduce fuel prices for Nigerians. He said the policy would focus on boosting domestic fuel production, increasing supply and ensuring that the benefits are reflected at filling stations. Atiku also cited the United States’ support for strategic energy production while defending government intervention in the sector. Atiku criticised the removal of fuel subsidy under President Bola Tinubu, saying it has worsened the cost-of-living crisis. He argued that incentives given to oil companies should also be extended to policies that provide relief for ordinary Nigerians.
